Decommissioning

Many Oil & Gas facilities are nearing the end of their lifetime or are no longer economically viable. Den Helder has been an established hub for the industry for 40 years and has a vast network of more than 200 supply companies, including specialists in Plug & Abandonment services.

The first ever decommissioning project on the Dutch part of the North Sea was executed in 2017 by NAM for its L13 platform. The project was for the decommissioning of a Heli-deck and was carried out from the Port of Den Helder. This year NAM will also carry this out for their K83 platform and will also be carried out from the Port of Den Helder.

Currently 95% of all Plug and Abandonment projects for the Dutch part of the North Sea are carried out from the Port of Den Helder. To date these are already more than 20 closed wells.

North Sea Energy Gateway’s suppliers can take care of the whole process - from preparation through to removal, transport, disposal and responsible recycling - resulting in a seamless and cost efficient decommissioning process.
