The Port Monitor provides an up-to-date and reliable overview of the economic significance of Dutch seaports. Commissioned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, the monitor is prepared by the Erasmus Centre for Urban, Port and Transport Economics (Erasmus UPT) and Berenschot, in collaboration with Statistics Netherlands and the Dutch seaport companies. The Port Monitor illustrates the economic impact of seaports based on factors such as employment, revenue, value added, and the number of businesses.
New in the 2025 Port Monitor is the expanded focus on sustainability. In close consultation with the port companies, additional sustainability components have been developed and elaborated, providing insights into the role of ports in the energy transition and future-proof development.
In addition to the national 2025 Port Monitor, a supplementary regional monitor has been prepared in collaboration with the Municipality of Den Helder and ONHN (Development Agency North Holland North). This shows the economic value added by Port of Den Helder to the North Holland North region. Together, the national and regional monitors provide insights into trends, developments, and outcomes of the port, highlighting the importance of Port of Den Helder as an economic and strategic driver for the region.
