According to Innovatiespotter: “The Municipality of Den Helder tops the rankings with the highest relative innovation score in the field of energy. Thanks to its maritime location and regional collaboration, the municipality has developed into an important hotspot for energy innovations.”
The Municipality of Den Helder is proud of this recognition. It shows that the city and region are constantly evolving. Many companies are working here on new solutions for sustainable energy, such as hydrogen and offshore wind. The coastal location plays an important role. The Seaport, Airport, and Knowledge Port (including METIP) together form a strong foundation for innovation. In these three hubs, companies, knowledge institutions, and the government work daily on new energy solutions.
Port of Den Helder The Netherlands and Den Helder Airport play a key role as a connecting link between entrepreneurs, maritime companies, and the energy transition in the North Sea.
Innovations in the field of Hydrogen
A good example of this collaboration is the structural support provided to companies developing hydrogen solutions. This is done, among other things, through the program https://waterstofnhn.nl/, which focuses on building complete hydrogen chains. These initiatives also stem from the Maritime Cluster North Holland Region Deal.
“We are extremely proud of this number 1 position,” says Alderman for the Port, Fotigui Camara. “In Den Helder, we work every day together with other authorities, companies, and knowledge partners on smart solutions for clean energy.”
Hans Huibers, Chairman of VNO-NCW Northwest Holland, also reacted positively to the news: “Den Helder’s strength lies in collaboration. Municipality, companies, and education reinforce each other, and you can see that reflected in this result.”
Looking ahead
In the coming years, Den Helder aims to continue building a strong, sustainable economy. The municipality will continue to provide space for innovative companies and initiatives in the energy sector, ensuring that Den Helder remains the place where knowledge, innovation, and practice come together.
